The Adventure Begins Baby Shower

Myself and my husband are avid travellers, so when it came to choosing a baby shower theme it was an easy choice…The Adventure Begins! After our many travels over the years, backpacking around different countries including climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and trekking to Everest Base Camp, we were excited to start our next new adventure and it was the perfect theme representing our personalities. Our nursery is also based around adventure so it was fun being able to purchase some decorative items for the baby shower guilt-free as I knew they would be used in the nursery afterwards.

My mum Cheryl and I run the Hip & Hooray online shop, so it was great to get in and use some of our products for our own event for a change! It’s a boy, so we picked a colour palette of Navy Blue, Teal, Grey and added in some Gold to make it just a little bit more girly. We included mountains, arrows and wild animals as the basis for the theme. It just so happens my sister in law has a grey arrow painted on her wall so that just HAD to be the backdrop and the giant white balloons with cascading peppercorn foliage really popped against the grey. A friend actually thought she painted the wall especially for the baby shower! Check out her beautiful and inspiring home on instagram @this.home.of.mine.

We created a welcoming entrance with a handmade 'Oh Boy' wreath and lined up gold favour bags with gold thank you gift tags underneath.

The main food table was the centre of the styling where we aimed to create a rustic woodland adventure feel, while still keeping things grown up by adding in gold accents such as gold plates, gold napkins, gold wooden cutlery and gold foil handmade bunting I created using my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine.

The menu was a rustic home-style afternoon tea with many food items provided by family and friends. Frosted By Nicci designed and made some stunning hand painted cookies to match the invitations. Nicci was such a delight to work with and I would highly recommend her cookies!

I’m obsessed with all the small details that make an event personal and unique, so there were definitely many handmade elements! The backdrop included handmade wooden mountains and clouds (thanks Dad...a creative solution to hide some ugly screws hanging out of the wall).

We also made arrow fruit skewers served standing up in logs, gold foil script bunting, arrow bunting, vinyl animal silhouette stickers to use as glass identifiers and small gold arrows to seal the favour bags. We even included a gift of some special handmade knitted ugg boots from my Nan in the styling.

Always look about the house for props you already have that suit the theme! We used a tee-pee from my nephew’s room as a present area which suited the theme perfectly.

Miniature woodland animals topped the naked cake, along with the 'oh baby' cake topper available in the shop!

My baby shower was an amazing day filled with laughter, family and friendship. It was a truly wonderful day thanks to my Mum, Sister and Sister-In-Law who looked after everything, creating a relaxed atmosphere with some fun activities complementing the theme. When planning any event our best advice here at Hip & Hooray is to make it personal and unique to you!
